OverviewLove has been portrayed, down the centuries, in many ways that show an irony and paradox. In literary stage-plays, novels and poems, as well as folklore, the ambivalence of Love in Thought and Portrayal clashes with the unrealistic, lavish praise of Love as an Ideal. These are a few poems that explore these clashes and show how humans have a tendency to downgrade that which they desperately hope for in life but do not get. But it is not just a case of ""sour grapes."" Since they do not want to swim against the tide or flow of ""words, sweet-sounding, indicating Love as Purity of Emotion"", this has brought about a crisis in the minds of the young, who still Hope to Succeed where their fathers, and, in turn, their fathers, seem to have failed. This very way of thinking of ""Love as an objective or target"", which, once achieved, is fulfilled forever, automatically robs it of chances of being understood, of humans understanding each other, and so achieve the Peace that we get temporarily from Love, then seem bereft of that very peace soon. If we do not try to reason out the contradictions that we have imbibed on how to view love, or the Love Portrayals instilled in our minds, we shall not be able to labour for Love, the key to lasting positivity in Love. And seek to bring our boat into safe harbours or ""Love Ports.""
