Author Information

M J Nicholas, born in Bethlehem PA, spent half his childhood as a typical American kid. His father, a Ukrainian immigrant, lost his job and home in the Great Depression. In the 1930s family moved to the USSR where Nicholas came of age. He was 16 when Nazi Germany invaded and 17 when he enlisted in the Soviet Red Army as an American volunteer. Nicholas fought in the huge tank battle of Kursk, among others, and helped liberate two Nazi death camps and a POW camp for American and British pilots. Wounded four times and shell-shocked twice, he returned to the front each time, and entered Berlin with the Soviet Red Army. After Word War II, he completed his higher education in Germany and Ukraine. He became a dramatist and musical director and produced variety show programs, which were staged throughout the USSR and Latin America. Finally Nicholas returned to his American homeland. Here he continues to write and appears publicly performing his non-fiction stories for American audiences.
