Overview

The artists featured in this book have embarked on the strange and risky path where they never quite know what they are making until it is finished. In treating us to their personal artistic vision, they throw off old societal rules regarding what art should be. They create pieces that might remind you of something you had once yourself imagined.

Author Information

"Spencer Brewer is a DSE (Dangerously Serial Entrepreneur) who creates 'High Whimsey' - fantastical pieces of assemblage sculptures out of vintage or unusual objects as well as being a composer, pianist, artist, piano technician, and producer. With 16 solo and duet albums to his credit, he received acclaim for his #1 hit records, ""The Pipers Rhythm"" and ""Dorians Legacy"". His music has been featured on Home Alone 2, LA Law, Sex & the City, Thirty Something, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Barbara Walters Show, over 15 years of Olympic World games, NPR, CNN, and hundreds of other TV programs and movies across the globe. For 15 years in his studio, Laughing Coyote Productions, he produced/engineered over 200 audiophile recordings for artists including Alex de Grassi, Joe Craven, Holly Near, Gene Parsons, Barbara Higbie, Paul McCandless, Paul Winter, Phil Aaberg, Darol Anger and many others. During this tenure, several recordings were nominated for Grammy awards. Alongside his lifelong passion of music and art, he has also restored, bought, sold, tuned and did virtually everything on over 20,000 pianos. Today utilizing parts from pianos, other instruments and vintage ephemera, he makes one-of-a-kind 'assemblage' pieces with his wife Esther at their studio, HarmonyGaits.com in northern California. His sculptures have been featured in galleries and museums throughout California. Spencer firmly believes in contributing back to his local community of Mendocino County. While donating dozens of private concerts over the years for local non-profit agencies, 30 years ago he started and was the promoter for 25 years the award winning ""Sundays in the Park"" summer concert series with over 20,000 attendees a summer in Ukiah, CA. He also created and produced festivals and concert series' - 'Live at the Playhouse', 'The Professional Pianist Series', 'Happination', 'BandSlam in the Plaza', 'Acoustic Café', 'Sunset at the Cellars', ""Lightning Jam with Kris Kristoffersen', 'Rural Health Rocks' and many others. Over the last decade he has been an integral partner with Wines That Rock, creating premium wines that enhance the direct connection between brands and fans like Grateful Dead, Cirque du Soleil, NPR, Virgin & TCM Wine clubs, Star Trek, Hallmark, Downton Abbey, Discovery Channel, The Bachelor, Rolling Stones, Woodstock and many others. A Renaissance man, Spencer contributes music and art while consulting organizations on their media, PR, marketing, production plans while supporting local communities. Esther Siegel's life and interests have revolved around creativity, healing, and horses. These interests guide her in whatever she does. Creativity is expressed in the form of cooking, book art, card making, and assemblage art. Healing is expressed in the form of herbology, natural healing, massage, and psychotherapy and horses in the form of cross-country traveling, teaching riding, and utilizing horses as partners in psychotherapy. Being part of a community means giving and Esther has volunteered, donated her time and energy as a foster parent, doing therapeutic riding, food kitchens, and mentoring. Her strong belief in ecology and recycling originating from her 'hippie days', has created a natural attraction to assemblage art, where she resides in a most easy manner."
