Overview

Elizabeth Johnstone was five months pregnant when her baby, Little T, was diagnosed with a rare heart defect. After months of medical appointments and meticulous care, her worst fears came true: Little T's heart stopped beating and he died peacefully in utero at 36 weeks. She delivered days later, even as waves of grief crashed down on her. In this poignant collection of journal entries and personal essays spanning more than seven years, Johnstone shares her struggle through one of life's most heart-wrenching experiences. It changed her, silenced her, caused her to question her faith. Loss Within Waves is an unfiltered exploration of a mother's heartache as she grapples with post-traumatic stress disorder and the complexity of grieving for a life that was never fully lived. Written with courage, vulnerability, and unwavering honesty, this book is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. Johnstone's unwavering determination to honour her baby's memory and her dedication to finding meaning within the depths of sorrow serve as an inspiring testament to the enduring power of love. Prepare to be moved and forever changed by Johnstone's heartfelt story of love, loss, and the enduring connection that transcends life's most heartbreaking moments.

Reviews

""This beautifully written memoir offers a look into a mother's heart-wrenching journey of losing her baby in utero, blending heartfelt journal entries with deep reflections on grief and healing. Having witnessed her evolve through this journey, I am inspired and proud of what she has accomplished. Her authenticity and courage is a source of solace for anyone facing similar pain."" -Louna Kadoch, Clinical Social Worker and Creator of Order Podcast ""Be prepared to cry but also to know hope. Elizabeth writes from her heart. She allows readers into a very private story of loss and recovery. What makes Eizabeth's memoir so special is that most of her thoughts and feelings were written as she was living them, not after the fact. So while there are moments of reflection, most of her memoir was written as she was experiencing it, and that is why this memoir is so authentic. Loss Within Waves gives insight into loss and the trauma it can cause, yet it also reminds us to treasure life."" -Norma Hubbard
