OverviewIn December 1945, in an Egyptian town called Nag Hammadi, a farmer discovered close to 1,000 pages of papyrus divided into codices, dated to the fourth century BCE. It was lucky the manuscripts were discovered in the 20th century and not earlier, since during the time of the Inquisition, these heretical and apocryphal texts surely would have ended up in a bonfire.
