Overview

"Join us on this magical journey through poetry, art and deep conversation between friends. Every page is a wonder, an opportunity to dive within and look inside. ""I portray and explore different aspects of the personality. I feel that I am actually reaching into that person or into that painting to bring out and express a deeper part of a person's subconscious. This work is for everybody, so I think it will affect other people's subconscious too. I do think that we are all, whilst living through our lives, searching for clarity; we are all looking for a way to live our lives in a more harmonious way, with each other and with the universe as a whole. We are looking for clues to help us find wisdom in the Ocean of Life. I feel like a detective looking for clues inside the painting. We translate the tale that the painting tells, allowing us to unravel a part of a person's inner, hidden life. We all seek to find the moment, the mood, thought or feeling that makes us move on and find a different direction. These paintings play a very small part in helping to enhance our perception by giving us a wider understanding of ourselves. Like a glimpse through a keyhole, showing a tiny part that lies beyond our understanding. This view allows us to sharpen up the senses and helps us to delve a little deeper into the unknown of me, or you, or all of us."""

Reviews

I found the gentle wisdom in the narrative and poetry calming and enlightening, and it reminded me not to take anything at face value. Like me, I'm sure all readers will find it difficult to resist studying the paintings and find their own interpretations. I feel that this book would make an excellent educational tool on which to encourage others to learn to look deeper into themselves. Elizabeth K. I really love each of the paintings and enjoyed the exchange and interpretations from Jane and Sue, and I think it works well as a format. I read it in one go and found it engaging, if a bit overwhelming in its intensity, so, possibly better consumed in sections. I'm sure that there are many people without my mental need for completeness out there, that will find the book deeply insightful, fascinating and enjoyable (as I did) and wish to understand more about Sue's gift for exploring the mysteries of the subconscious. Bill J. Today, 9th November 1999, Sue asked me what I felt about typing the stories of the pictures - what had I got out of it? As the pictures have opened up so much for me, I am going to try to put some of it down on paper. I have been given insights about myself and people in general, either when Sue does the reading, or afterwards when I am typing it up. I find that Sue's pictures have a relevance for me as well as the person they were painted for. I think Sue finds it so as well. Some of them touch on aspects of my own life and by seeing them, and hearing the reading, it brings things out into the open what I had perhaps kept hidden. But even if there is no obvious relevance to me, on hearing the readings, I begin to feel that I know the person in a way that I have never known anybody before. This has been a great help to me in relating to people and being able to open myself up to other people. It has helped me to see people in a different way, a special way, to see more than the superficial front that is usually shown. This project with Sue has been part of a healing path that I had already been struggling along. I had become ill nearly six years before and my whole life had changed. I could not work; I felt ill all the time; I had no energy. I lost touch with who I was and how I related to people. My confidence in all aspects of life plummeted. Gradually I recovered physically but, socially and spiritually, I was still inept. Working with Sue and her pictures has changed me a lot. I feel livelier and chattier and less withdrawn and fearful of what other people might think about me. Jane

Author Information

Sue started painting after leaving Hornsey College of Fashion Design in 1963. On leaving college, she married a French journalist and had two beautiful sons. They lived in France and America. During that time, she painted out her emotional life in secret. Being unable to express her true feelings in her own language, she spoke it out through pictures. The marriage lasted over twenty-one years but sadly ended. On returning to England at last in 1984, Sue continued her paintings, expressing her dreams, feelings, and desires. One day at a holistic fair she was asked to draw a picture for somebody as they requested a 'spirit guide picture'. Her paintings didn't exactly turn out to be spirit guides, but rather they were deeper readings of the subject, rather similar to Tarot, but more personal. She found that she could tap into other peoples' emotions and spirituality and express it in a unique way on paper. This book is the result.Sue now lives in Hampshire; she is a retired yoga teacher and healer. Learning about esoteric healing, combined with yoga, has been of great benefit to her students in the past. Since 2018, Sue has retired after a rare illness, having spent weeks in hospital. Learning to walk again, she now spends her time writing and gardening. She has gathered over the years lots of paintings. Here is her first book; she presents just a few of the many works that have been created. It is with delight and pleasure that she now begins to show the world some of her hidden treasures in the way of paintings, drawings, and storytelling. There lies deep within the picture a hidden language: look carefully inside and catch a glimpse of the hidden message. Michael Amos is the co-founder and Managing Director of Sleepy Lion Publishing. He is also a professional editor, writer, illustratior and poet.
