Overview

Many diseases and disorders, such as hepatitis and severe alcoholism, can lead to the advanced stage of liver scarring known as cirrhosis. The liver is essential because it removes toxins from the body, purifies the blood, and produces vitamins and minerals. One of the many problems of cirrhosis is the development of liver cancer. - The development of scar tissue in the liver is a universal symptom of cirrhosis, which has several potential origins. When liver cells become injured or die, the body responds by trying to fix the problem. Scar tissue develops as a result. The liver's capacity to function is diminished as scar tissue accumulates. - The liver damage done by cirrhosis normally can't be undone, but if liver cirrhosis is discovered early and the cause is treated, additional damage and problems can be reduced and, rarely, reversed. Chronic alcohol misuse, viral hepatitis (hepatitis B, C, and D), fatty liver disease (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis), and other disorders that can damage the liver are common causes of liver cirrhosis. Cirrhosis should be diagnosed and treated as soon as feasible to slow its progression and lessen the severity of its effects. Changes in diet, exercise, and medication, and even liver transplantation, may all be part of the treatment strategy.
