OverviewAdvances in diagnostics for chronic liver disease and non-invasive tests for fibrosis (F) have led to an overall reduction in the need for liver histology, but it continues to play an important role in clinical practice, particularly in establishing a diagnosis. Objectives: To determine the current indications for percutaneous liver biopsy (PBF) and to describe the histological results. Results: We included 72 patients, mean age 50.5 years [15-88], with an F/H ratio of 2.2. Eighty PBFs were performed. Indications were dominated by suspicion of dysimmune hepatopathy (47.3%), unexplained disturbances of the liver balance (BH) (19.7%) and evaluation of F during viral hepatitis B (HVB) (15.8%). Conclusion: Despite the remarkable decline in these indications, PBF still has a predominant place in clinical practice in modern hepatology, particularly for diagnostic purposes.
