Overview

Welcome to Young Voices of Silver City & Beyond, 2015. This book is the third in a series featuring the creative expressions of the youth in northern Grant County, New Mexico. A total of one hundred fifty-nine entries were submitted during this year's contest--thirty-five art entries, twenty-nine prose entries, and ninety-five poetry entries. The young authors and artists hail from Silver City, Bayard, and San Lorenzo. Within the pages of this book are the winning entries as well as the finalists. We hope that you, the reader, will enjoy these young voices expressing themselves while reaffirming the joy and importance of reading and the literary arts. This project is sponsored by Literacy Alive, a nonprofit organization cofounded by Sharleen Daugherty and Karen Dunn in 2007 to promote the love of reading and personal expression of the young people within the local communities of Silver City, Bayard, Cliff, Gila, Hurley, Mimbres, and Santa Clara. Once again the youth of Grant County have done themselves proud in Literacy Alive's annual writing contest. ...
