Author Information

Lisbon's maritime history, postcolonial cultural mix and progressive politics drew Donna Wheeler in many years ago and has continued to fascinate. She returned recently to witness a city in the throes of rapid transformation; this latest research trip allowed her to explore that 'new' Lisbon in exquisite depth, as well as really reacquaint herself with the vibrant, multilayered city, and the food, wine, music and architecture, that she has always loved. This book comes after writing on Paris for Hardie Grant's Precincts and Pocket Precincts series, as well as twelve years writing guidebooks and features on Italy, France, North Africa, Belgium, Austria and Norway for Lonely Planet. She's also a DK Travel author and has written on contemporary art, architecture and design for various international publishers and she is a frequent contributor to the Telegraph UK's travel section. Sydney born and bred, Melbourne domiciled for a few decades, she divides her time between Sydney, Paris' 11th, an imaginary masseria in Puglia and whichever other destination has currently cast its spell on her.
