OverviewLiminal Island is a coming-of-age story set on a fictional, nameless island off the coast of South Africa. It follows the lives of Keith, an impoverished seventeen-year-old boy, his twenty-seven-year-old caretaker Lanky, and two young women, Odette and Alice, who impact the lives of Keith and Lanky forever. This island has an extreme class divide with a mountain splitting the island into two halves in which the rich reside on one side and the poor on the other. Keith is driven by his desire to escape his social class, and he constantly fantasizes about how his life would be improved if he were wealthy. And yet he is a young man of strong morals and believes that hard and honest work is the only way to achieve wealth. His journey constantly challenges how he can both uphold his moral code and pursue his goals ... until the terrible moment when he must choose.
