Author Information

Patrick Hamilton has 20 years light and heavy vehicle experience gained at leading vehicle manufacturer’s main dealerships, including 6 years in the Royal Air Mechanical Transport Servicing Section. He was the Automotive Training Workshops Manager at a private training provider and a Lecturer in Automotive Engineering at Cambridge Regional College. Patrick is currently Head of School of Engineering at West Suffolk College, also teaching on automotive and engineering courses. Patrick has experience of teaching on a range of light vehicle, heavy vehicle and motorcycle programmes ranging from Entry level 3 to level 4. He has worked for the Sector Skills Council writing some of their QCF units and has also been a technical consultant and author for City and Guilds and the IMI Awards Ltd, helping to develop and write their qualifications. Patrick is Chairman of the IMI Members Association Norfolk. John Rooke has over 30 years experience in the motor trade trained at a main dealer he then took the opportunity to enter teaching as an instructor in a private training school, teaching practical skills. In 1999 he became a lecturer at Cambridge Regional College teaching Automotive Engineering to learners from Entry level to level 3, he presently has an additional role of supporting engineering staff to improve teaching and learning. During the past 9 years he has been the colleges IMI centre coordinator enabling him to keep fully up to date with qualification and assessment requirements. Robert Sharman has a wide range of practical experience working on light/heavy vehicles and road construction plant for 15 years. He also has 30 years experience teaching full time in FE, on a full range of MV Craft and Technician programmes up to level 4, during which time he was also a C&G moderator and Head of MV section. Robert is now working for Sector Skills Council and a major awarding body, assisting in the development of new qualifications.
