Reviews

This is a really interesting and thought-provoking read. So much of how the world works is assumed, ignored, taken for granted or misunderstood. In this book, Ancient Wisdom, modern conclusions, and personal musings are all present, cloaked in rich language with erudite cultural references. The author is clearly well-read, is a clear thinker and has the skill of clear communication on difficult issues. Life is a journey of learning; understanding the bigger picture enriches our journey. When the philosopher fish said to the student fish ‘Consider this ocean!’, the student fish didn’t know what the philosopher was talking about, and Guy helps us think about many aspects of the ocean we all swim in. Chapter titles such as 'Earning – Drudgery or Authenticity?'; 'Money – Use and Abuse'; 'Stuff', 'The Freedom of Enough' and 'Culture and Values – Chains of the past' hint at rich delights explored within. Unfamiliar areas are brought to light, including for example, some health effects of electromagnetic radiation. As Guy says – and encourages us: “A habit, a norm of personal reflection, and reading of the signs [of Life] have to be a start. These are simply matters of self-respect. One can always be encouraged to get rid of the fag-end of a reality. Each of us is Odysseus trying to get home. This book wishes to be a part of the return to ourselves.” -- Dr Andrew Tresidder @ www.gwales.com

Author Information

Originally from Northamptonshire, England, Guy was educated at the Universities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (Economics) and Lancaster (Systems in Management). Ill health necessitated another path, and he has worked both as a hospital porter and a theatre critic, amongst other things, as well as training at the College of Healing in Worcestershire. His most recent incarnation was as a home-educating dad living in Pembrokeshire, Wales, before producing this, his first and last book!
