He graduated from the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children as Valedictorian in 1956. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. He served as a corrections officer, a Director of Services for a Central PA mental health agency, and as an assistant professor of Social Science at Lock Haven University. In addition, he supervised Graduate interns in social work for Temple University, the University of Illinois, as well as under-graduate interns from Penn State and Lycoming College. For the past 30 years, he and his wife have been the owners/operators of a small music store in Lewisburg, PA called Music N' More. He serves as Lay Leader of his church and his wife as organist.
