Marina Villa was five years old living in Cuba with her mother, sister, and grandmother when Castro seized power in 1959. Seven years later she and her family entered the United States as refugees. She went on to obtain degrees from Boston University, Harvard University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and worked in the engineering field for many years.
