For more than seven years, Thomas Bachand has been making photographs of Lake Tahoe. His images - which are gathered together here for the first time - possess a timeless quality, capturing the unique geographies and microclimates of the lake region. These in turn are juxtaposed with images depicting the transition the lake and its environs are undergoing due to tourism and development. With an introduction by Dr. Charles Goldman, director of the Tahoe Research Group at UC Davis, this volume depicts not only the region's sublime beauty, but also its place as a nexus for many of the salient issues facing our time. Thomas Bachand has been a professional photographer and writer for more than ten years. His commercial photography has appeared in magazines, advertisements, brochures, and textbooks - both in print and on the web. His first, self-published, book, A Vagabond World, is based on a two-year solo journey around the world, exploring the changing dynamic of the long term travel experience. His work has successfully combined scientific findings with social action and has been directly applied to engineering solutions, social needs, and legal decisions in the Tahoe region.
