José Antonio Marina ha dedicado toda su labor de investigador a la elaboración de una teoría de la inteligencia que comienza en la neurología y termina en la ética. Para él, la función principal de la inteligencia no es conocer, sino alcanzar la felicidad y la dignidad. En el marco de este proyecto ha escrito sobre la creación, los sentimientos, la voluntad, el lenguaje, la ética, la religión y la política. Ha sido galardonado con numerosos premios, entre ellos el Premio Anagrama de Ensayo, el Premio Giner de los Ríos a la Innovación Educativa y el Premio Nacional de Ensayo.
