Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection (1611-1691) was a friar of the Carmelite Order of Paris. He taught that ""our whole purpose... [is] to adore God and love him, without worrying about the rest."" Looking at a barren tree one wintry day, eighteen-year-old Lawrence realized that this tree would bloom again. He was deeply moved by God's providence and full of love for God. He not only converted to the Lord that day, but he also committed himself forever to serving God with all his heart. He believed that by accepting God's help and guarding our souls, keeping them in tune with God's will, we can have constant fellowship with the Lord. For decades, he practiced and taught this life-transforming path to God. Brother Lawrence died peacefully at the age of eighty.
