Overview

"A fine selection of short stories by the South American master of the horror and fantastic Horacio Quiroga, many of them previously untranslated into English, and published here in a bilingual Spanish-English edition for the first time. Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937), considered by some the ""South American Poe"", is probably the most famous Uruguayan writer, although he lived mostly in Argentina, and mainly in his beloved province of Misiones which served as inspiration for many of his stories. We present here eight stories in a Spanish-English bilingual format. The chosen stories are: ""The Hypthalmic Stain"" a strange, dreamlike story about a couple in love. ""The Yaciyateré"" based on a folktale about a spirit that takes children away. ""The Rays"" a story about madness and obsession with a twist. ""Tropical Glory"" a man goes to an island in Africa to fight nature, and lose. ""The Spectre"" a story about ghosts and the magic of cinema. ""The Flamingos' Stockings"" how the flamingos got their legs. ""The Decapitated Chicken"" a horror story about a tragic inheritance. ""The Feather Pillow"" a woman is slowly dying and no one knows why.
