After he received his PhD in 1988, he was senior researcher, project and team manager within the automotive industry for 17 years. Subsequently, he returned to academia as a senior research fellow and then associate professor. He has been involved in many car racing engine projects, mostly with Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat Auto Corse, from F1 to Super Touring to Rally.
