A flying ace or fighter ace is a military aviator credited with shooting down five or more enemy aircraft during aerial combat.Nordmann was born on 22 November 1915 in Giessen. At the start of the war Nordmann was serving with I./Jagdgeschwader 77 (JG 77). By March 1940 he was an Oberleutnant and Staffelkapit n of 3./JG 77. In November 1940 Nordmann, having achieved 8 air victories, was transferred to command 12 Staffel of Jagdgeschwader 51 (JG 51).
