Author Information

"The Rev. Stan Parris, an author, former pastor, missions pastor, and missionary, has written a second book after considerable success with his first title, ""Just Outside of Hope,"" a book about how the Lord led him on mission journeys throughout the world, including a residential missionary post in Maracaibo, Venezuela.Stan retired as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, a small town that is home to two uni-versities-Henderson State University, a public school, and Ouachita Baptist University, a private Southern Baptist University that supplies more denominational preachers and music ministers than any school in Arkansas. Stan graduated from Henderson, which is a small part of the unusual path of his life from ""just outside of Hope,"" Arkansas, where he grew up, to All-America college football player, to an NFL camp where he was one misstep from making the team, to coaching high school football, then surrendering to his long-held call tothe ministry, which led to a call to missions. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist TheologicalSeminary in Fort Worth, Texas, then pastored churches in Arizona, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, became missions pastor at one of the largest Southern Baptist Churches in his home state, eventually ending his fulltime ministry in the town where and when football was No. 1 in his life. His priorities changed, both with his marriage and his call to the ministry. His love of preaching has not diminished in retirement, leading him to in-terim pastorships and opportunities to fill in for pastors on leave or vacation.Stan married his college sweetheart, Charlotte Wilson Parris, and they have three children, Kyle, Kelly, and Kenneth. Stan and Charlotte also are ""Papa"" and ""Nana"" to five grandchildren-Alexa Nicole, Dustyn James, Sara Elizabeth, Charlee Lane, and Campbell Elise. The newest addition to the family is great-grandson, Beckham, ames Spinks."
