Overview

Peace Corps Volunteer and fiber artist, Susan W. Bowditch, did not set out to write a book. She set out to teach elementary school science. But as her journeys took her across the world, from Peace Corps training in Hawaii to living in the Philippines, and later with her husband and developing family in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Ghana, and Macedonia, she gathered fabrics and stories from everywhere her travels led. Every piece of cloth, every experience, and every journal entry was woven into a life spent traversing the globe, immersed in new cultures. Now, in the pages of her book Journeys Become a Life, you can share her intercultural adventures, assembled into a tapestry reflecting a life of learning.

Author Information

After returning from her global travels, Bowditch found her niche in museums where she developed programs first for The House of the Seven Gables, and later the African Gallery in the Peabody Essex Museum, both in Salem, Mass. Later, she managed the Joshua Chamberlain Museum in Brunswick, Maine for one season. Next, she joined the faculty of Maine's Mid-Coast Senior College. She teaches courses on issues of African American History-the Atlantic Slave Trade, slavery related to New England, racism, white privilege, reparations, etc.-all informed by her life in Ghana. Bowditch has a Master's degree in Arts and Cross-Cultural Education from Vermont College and a BA in Art from the College of Wooster in Ohio. Along the way, she earned a certificate in Museum Studies from Tufts University and several certificates from the Intercultural Communication Institute in Portland, Oregon.
