OverviewThis is the story of an aging physicist and his times in America. In a sense it is an autobiography since it is a chronology of his experiences not only in the world of science and engineering, but it also is a commentary of our world from 1930 to 2010 as seen by him in his broad based journey through life. This book takes us from the pre-WW2 days through school and into the early years of contending with the issues about what to do with his years ahead. Early childhood and the way things were at that time in a small suburban community just outside New York City are pictured and contrasted with those things of today. The author's interest covers a wide scope in the scientific community and range from old cars, motorcycling, small airplanes in General Aviation as well as concerns about energy in our future. Descriptions of his exploits into these areas of activities are sometimes colorful segments of this memoir. The author has written many technical and scientific papers in the course of his career, including a few engineering text books. However, this is first and perhaps only venture into the more popular realm of non-fiction for the general reader. Consequently, the presentation may be more than a bit nonconformist, and different from most other books on similar subjects.
