Overview

Amelia Troubridge is one of the foremost portrait photographers working in the UK today. These portraits celebrate exceptional women from the spheres of politics, culture, business and fashion-forward thinkers who have had an impact on the world stage. Joan Of Arc Had Style is both direct and complex, charting the journey of women from teenage innocence to successful maturity, through highs and lows, featuring a collection of images of some of the most outstanding and inspirational women that Amelia has encountered. The individual images each tell a story, but as a collection, become an extraordinary essay into the challenges and achievements of contemporary women. In Joan Of Arc Had Style, Amelia succeeds in empowering her subjects whilst also redefining our understanding of beauty. Portraits of women appearing in the book and exhibition include Fay Weldon, Noreena Hertz, Helen Mirren, Justine Picardie, Kim Cattrall, Anna Friel, Erin O’Connor, Rebecca Hall, Ruth Jones, Cara Delevingne, Pam Hogg, Dita von Teese, Maureen Paley, Isabella Blow, Polly Morgan, Ruth Jones, Shazia Mirza, Mariane Pearl, Sinead O’Connor and Susie Bick. Amelia comments: “I set out to celebrate individuality, courage and strength, but also, inevitably, to offer an honest portrayal of being those women, the struggle of their journeys. This book represents my personal viewpoint of seminal moments in all of our lives as women. We are all those women at one time or another.”
