Overview

'Works': This is a major mid-career survey of the work of James Casebere, the New York contemporary photographer and artist. Okwui Enwezor contributes both an insightful introduction and an extensive and revealing conversation with the artist. It also contains important essays by Hal Foster, and Tony and Ford Morrison. It is the most comprehensive and perceptive book about this important American artist to date.

Author Information

James Casebere, born in Lansing, Michigan, in 1953, lives and works in New York City. Working in his studio, Casebere constructs intimate three-dimensional models of interior and exterior spaces, pared down to essential forms. He then photographs these maquettes, freezing the investigated spaces between the real and the imagined. Casebere's large-scale photographs have been exhibited worldwide in galleries such as Sean Kelly Gallery in New York, the Lisson Gallery in London and Gallery Ihn in Seoul, South Korea. Moreover, his work is included in the collections of many major museums such as the Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington; Tate Modern and Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Per L'Arte, Turin.
