Overview

The kids have taken over the Jesus story! Twelve-year-old Tammie's life in a quiet fishing town would never be the same. Her future wasn't looking good (understatement!) but things quickly went from bad to WICKED with the arrival of a strange grown-up with nice eyes. And as for the business with Daniel's lunch, or Dibs's roof... Using humour, historical and cultural context, evocative description and snappy dialogue, JAIRUS'S GIRL covers the whole Galilee side of the Gospel, bringing in all the detail found in the Bible, but as one sweeping, fictionalised story. It's Book Two of The Young Testament, a fun, accessible series of full-length books about the life and ministry of Jesus and beyond, with the children and young people as the main characters. Wishing Shelf Awards Red Ribbon winner, 2019, 'Highly recommended' Author L R Hay has an award from the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, and has written for BBC TV, film and theatre.

AA Milne-esque in a wonderful way Conrad Gempf, writer & lecturer in New Testament, London School of Theology; co-author (with Bob Hartman) of PAUL: MAN ON A MISSION The greatest story ever told just got a whole lot more accessible for today's youngsters. A fab and fun retelling of the New Testament in a way that I never thought possible - easily pickupable, unputdownable, sure to be enjoyed... Innovative, inventive and able to switch from comic tale to emotional truth with wit and expertise. Great depth, hugely ambitious yet incredibly realised... Highly recommended! Paul Kerensa, comedian & writer (MIRANDA; NOT GOING OUT; TOP GEAR; ROYAL VARIETY SHOW) Funny, imaginative and moving... We loved it... The characters feel as if they're there in front of you... definitely a recommended read for 8-13 year olds New Wine Magazine As a teacher, I find it very hard to find books relating to religion that are not stuffy and slow... However, this is a gem. The humour is wonderful, the story is uplifting, and there's tons to talk about with the children. This is a very talented author who has excellent comic timing. Wishing Shelf Awards judges Innovative approach to a well known historical era, told in a light-hearted way and in a voice ideal for the pre-teen reader... an entertaining story, fun and informative... a really enjoyable read, even for an adult Readers' Favorite Certain to delight all ages. I am an adult with a seminary degree, and even I found myself learning something from young Tammie... I felt as if I was really there, watching the events unfolding. I was particularly impressed by the author's portrayal of Jesus... a spiritually fulfilling book with a lot of heart Rev. Rebecca Writes, book blog Hay has crafted a sweet, funny and strangely moving tale... To put it simply, this book is a delight Grant Leishman, Goodreads Top Twenty reviewer
