Overview

"""Forsythe has written a powerful exploration of ISIS and its radicalization of youths. ... a highly teachable novel which will capture a student's interest ... A must-read."" --Jan Macomber, M.S., English teacher (retired) ""This is a timely book aimed at helping young adults understand and avoid the horrors of ISIS."" -- Jeri D. Roberts, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement history teacher (retired) ISIS: Our Children at Risk is a lesson learned by way of a novel. ISIS, the novel portrays the true-to-life exploits of ISIS zealots who submit to a seventh-century Islamic sect that many Muslim scholars regard as a ""cult."" This book examines the frightening use of social media and propaganda to recruit young people of all nationalities, ethnicity, and socioeconomic strata into the ISIS cult, or to become undercover operatives. ISIS: Our Children at Risk, uses the stories of Fatima Baloch, a young woman of British citizenship, who is recruited into MI6 (British Military Intelligence) to become a field agent in the ISIS capital city of Raqqa, Syria. Fraught with tragic complications and danger, she meets a young CIA operative, Buraq, who is a fourth-generation US citizen, born of Jordanian-American parents. Through circumstances beyond their control, each must survive in the midst of the dangerous and destructive Syrian conflict. Buraq and Fatima witness unspeakable ISIS atrocities as they gather information about this devastating cult. This novel is their story, told alongside the stories of other Syrian ""operatives"" and ISIS recruits."

"""Underlying the seduction of excitement and belonging lies the barbarian brutality of ISIS. Targeting a youthful readership, this gripping tale of undercover courage por-trays the bloody, brutal truth behind the slimy media appeal. Youthful British and American Muslim heroes guarantee the message that this tiny group of bad Muslims does not represent the 1.6 Billion Muslims around the world."" -Roberta Sabbath, Ph.d ""Forsythe has written a powerful exploration of ISIS and its radicalization of youths. This is a highly teachable nov-el which will capture a student's interest with its topical and relevant subject matter. A must-read ...."" -Jan Macomber, M.S., English Teacher (retired) ""This is a timely book aimed at helping young adults un-derstand and avoid the horrors of ISIS. It is, in places, quite gruesome, but realistic in its description of ISIS' atrocities. A book that should be read and discussed in school to better understand the behaviors of ISIS and the consequences of joining them."" -Jeri D. Roberts. International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement History Teacher (retired) ""Trust me ... your kids want to know about ISIS. Most kids are curious, angry, or a little scared. They may not watch a news program with you or read an article ... but they will read ISIS: Our Children at Risk by Dr. Dale For-sythe. This YA novel presents factual information about America's military intelligence, Europe's intelligence net-work, and a caliphate in Syria."" -Kelly Keiser, East Career Technical Academy, House I, English"
