Reviews

For production of this volume, Parra and Panizzi assembled a cadre of Brazilian authors who represent the best in the field, along with several chapters in collaboration with international authorities who have spent time in Brazil. This volume offers the most authoritative compilation of up-to-date research on the ecology of insects with emphasis on nutrition and nutritional ecology, as well as the implications for the development of integrated pest management programs applied to the neotropics, arguably the most complex and diverse of the world's biogeographic zones. This volume is a landmark in a relatively young, multidimensional science, and will greatly contribute toward much-needed further research. -Marcos Kogan, Oregon State University It is easy to see why this book has gone through two Brazilian editions and now is translated into English. It contains some immensely interesting and valuable information. ... the contributors provide us with easy entry into the fascinating world of insect-host relations. Without exception, the authors have provided comprehensive yet lucid discussions of the most important aspects of each topic treated. The bibliographic information is complete but not overwhelming. ... [This book] should be on the reference shelf of anyone working in this field. ... Overall, this is a wonderful addition to the entomological literature, and English-speakers will be very grateful that they finally have ready access to this useful publication. - John L. Capinera, Entomology and Nematology Department, University of Florida, Florida Entomologist, March 2013
