Overview

The studies on pig manure utilisation are focused on two areas: the use of the manure to fertilise soil and the treatment of the raw and digested manure. Essentially, this book concentrates on the separation of the treated slurries into liquid and solid phases, and the subsequent use of the two obtained products. The fertilising effects of the manure originating from Polish pig farms on the croplands belonging to the pig farm owners are discussed. Due to high phosphorus content in the soil, the recommended manure dose was decreased to match the acceptable quantities of both phosphorus and nitrogen. Additionally, a newly developed complex pig manure treatment and filtration technology called the AMAK process is presented.

From 2012 - Assistant Professor - Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, CUT. She invented a new, complex pig manure treatment and filtration process called AMAK which is characterized by efficient separation and very high reductions of COD, N and P in the filtrate (1 patent, 10 patent applications). Makara has 62 publications (22.6 total impact points, 35 ISI Journal publications; H-index 4; 37 citations basing on Scopus), 4 book chapters, 6 patents, and 22 patent applications. Awards: 2014 Engel Foundation Award for The Best Young Scientist of CUT and AGH Krakow; 2015 Scholarship of the Polish Ministry of Science for Outstanding Young Scientists.
