OverviewThis book investigates the work of two Indonesian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) concerned with Indonesian women migrant workers working in the informal sector. It concentrates on examining the NGOs' efforts to influence policies on labor migration in the changing context of Indonesias Reformasi Era, a period dominated by democratization and globalization processes. The book argues that the NGOs can actually negotiate and expand their political space. It illustrates how changes in the policy context and within state institutions, more accommodative attitudes from key stakeholders, and the NGOs' own efforts to adapt to the changes around them have given them a wider political space to conduct their activism. This book intends to contribute to the existing body of literature on labor migration by studying the activism of NGOs concerned with the issue of women migrant workers in influencing the labor migration policies in Indonesia as a sending country.
