OverviewMost of the books in the Enjoying Great Art series are topical - on a variety of topics ranging from horses to nobility, and from necklaces to maps. But occasionally, the need arises to focus on a particular artist. Leonardo da Vinci was the first to warrant his own book in the series, and now Vincent van Gogh joins that limited list. Van Gogh's artist career was much shorter than da Vinci's, but in less than ten years, van Gogh completed almost a thousand oil paintings, and over a thousand sketches and water colors. So, while In Art: Leonardo includes all of da Vinci's known works, In Art: Van Gogh can only include a small portion of his work. Many of the other books in the Enjoying Great Art series also include paintings by van Gogh, including the following ones by Deirdre Fuller: Butterflies, Chairs, Cows, Farming, Shoes, Still Life, and Winter. Catherine Jaime's books with van Gogh include: Books, Candlelight, Flags, Food, Hats, and Trees, with more to come. Enjoy this small sample of van Gogh's work, along with several portraits of him by other artists, and numerous quotes. (The quotes are all by van Gogh, and the paintings are unless marked otherwise.) Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor Information"Catherine has put together a wide variety of books in her Enjoying Great Art series - including books on Leonardo da Vinci, CHRISTmas, Madonnas, New York City, and Turkey, to name just a few. Catherine's appreciation for ""Great Art"" started slowly. Beginning with a love of all things Leonardo da Vinci, in recent years she branched out to Claude Monet, Winslow Homer, and Norman Rockwell. And there her love of art sat for many years. Only in the last few years has she come to recognize and enjoy the works of many other artists, and in the process has fallen in love with many of their paintings, both well-known and not so well-known. This series started simply: a few books to introduce children to art and artists they might not have known - all arranged along a single theme (first hats, then with animals, then bridges, and so it went). Before long she had multiplied her efforts and her books, all the while introducing not just her students, but also many adults to the vast array of artwork that so many of us sadly neglect."
