Overview"In this, the latest book in the Enjoying Great Art Series, we will examine the Magi in paintings, as well as in scripture, history, legends, and songs. Like other books in the series, this one contains dozens of paintings along this particular theme. Unlike most of the others, though, this one also includes several pages of text, in this case giving us more information on the topic, the Magi (the Wise Men) and the star they followed. How often during the Christmas season, or other times of the year, do we consider the Wise Men and their trip to see Christ? For most of us, not often. Maybe we see three wise men on camels in some of our nativity sets, and we might sing ""We Three Kings"" among our Christmas carols, but what do we really know about them, and what do we think we know? The Gospels of Matthew and Luke both record portions of the Christmas story, but only Matthew tells us of the visit of the Magi. The complete passage is at the back of the book, and pertinent portions are quoted throughout." Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor Information"Catherine has put together a wide variety of books in her Enjoying Great Art series - including books on Leonardo da Vinci, CHRISTmas, Madonnas, New York City, and Turkey, to name just a few. Catherine's appreciation for ""Great Art"" started slowly. Beginning with a love of all things Leonardo da Vinci, in recent years she branched out to Claude Monet, Winslow Homer, and Norman Rockwell. And there her love of art sat for many years. Only in the last few years has she come to recognize and enjoy the works of many other artists, and in the process has fallen in love with many of their paintings, both well-known and not so well-known. This series started simply: a few books to introduce children to art and artists they might not have known - all arranged along a single theme (first hats, then with animals, then bridges, and so it went). Before long she had multiplied her efforts and her books, all the while introducing not just her students, but also many adults to the vast array of artwork that so many of us sadly neglect."
