OverviewAlready a member of the Territorial Army, Roy was mobilised in 1939 and joined the British Expeditionary Force in France. After three days and two nights on the Dunkirk beaches he was evacuated back to England. He was then sent to North Africa and a chance meeting resulted in his transferring to the newly formed Parachute Regiment and, from there, the elite Special Air Service. In 1944 he was infiltrated into German-occupied France with the Maquis resistance organisation. During the closing stages of the War the scene shifts to Holland and the advance through Germany. The author describes life in newly liberated Paris and Berlin in the post-war years.
