OverviewThis is the historical fictional account of two tobacco farmers turned volunteer soldiers from Augusta, KY, inspired by the real life chronicle of the 16th Kentucky Infantry Union Army regiment in The Civil War. It follows the two men from their enlistment, through the Battles of Ivy Mountain and Mossy Creek, while meanwhile their home town of Augusta is ravaged by the Confederates in the Battle of Augusta while they are away. Later, their unit is a part of General William T. Sherman's Army as he marches through Georgia and captures Atlanta for the Union. In the last few months of the War, the two men fight with the 16th Kentucky in the dreadful Battle of Franklin, TN and then on to the Battle of Nashville. The story details the struggles of the men and their families attempting to cope with the horrors and consequences of the appalling War fought on American soil.
