OverviewA presentation of the novel interdisciplinary optical remote sensing technique for various ionized diluted media, based on collisional polarization of spectoral emissions. The work aims to provide a methadology for impact spectropolarimetic sensing suitable for solving many practical diagnostic problems. Major sections of the work describe the quantum mechanical theory behind collisional polarization of atomic particles, the effects of original impact polarization in ionized media, methodology and practical techniques for observation of solar flares as an illustrative astrophysical example, results of spectropolarimetric sensing based on ground-based observational data and estimates of the energy transported by fast particles to the upper chromosphere of the sun.
