OverviewOlbrich was in Otto Wagner's master class in Vienna. In 1899 Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt, summoned Olbrich - and six other artists - to the recently founded Mathildenhohe artists' colony at Darmstadt. And there a very productive phase began for Olbrich although it would end all too soon - on his untimely death in 1908. The first edition of Ideen Von Olbrich was published in 1900, attesting to his supreme achievements in Vienna up to 1899 and dedicated 'in reverence and gratitude to the Grand Duke, his royal patron'. The present publication is an unrevised reprint of the second edition of 1904, supplemented by numerous examples of hitherto unknown works from Olbrich's Darmstadt days. Now the book is again available in its original format to commemorate the centenary of this distinguished artist's death.
