OverviewThe International Conference organized to coincide with the exhibition sponsored by the Consello da Cultura Gallega on Alfonso X and Galicia held in L'Aquila, was an opportunity for a discussion among specialists from different backgrounds (Italy, France and Spain) on the kings of the Romantic Middle Ages who were also poets, all of whom owed in their writing to the great lesson of the school of troubadours, to whom we owe the sentimental formation of Europe. Contributors have thus examined the production of Richard the Lionheart, king of England;Thibaut de Champagne king of Navarre; Emperor Frederick II; Alfonso X king of Castile; Charles of Anjou king of Sicily; and finally Don Denis king of Portugal. In addition, it was also chosen to turn our gaze to the production of the Anglo-Saxon king Alfred in an interdisciplinary desire to broaden the horizon of study and comparison. Particularly important is the space reserved for the musical component of the lyrics, an element consubstantial to medieval poetic production.
