Overview

"A Photographer and a Dog's Eye View ""Artists live by curiosity and enthusiasm, qualities readily evident as inspiration in dogs."" 'I, Jack Russell' is a journey of discovery that will enthrall dog lovers everywhere. When photographer Andy Hughes, a lifelong admirer and owner of Jack Russells, realised that he had many more pictures of his dogs than he did of his family and friends, he decided to create this joyous enterprise, photographing one dog which lead to another dog until he had travelled the length and breadth of the UK and then ventured to the USA, where he captured the Jack Russell Terrier Club Trials in Florida. The result: this book exploring the relationship between the Jack Russell and its human companions. Originally bred as a hunting dog in England in the 19th century and still used as working dogs today, Jack Russells are sturdy, tough, tenacious, intelligent, athletic, fearless and vocal animals who create their own fun when left to entertain themselves. Full of spontaneity, the photographs show Jack Russells at work, rest and play and capture the essence of what it is to be and to own a Jack Russell terrier. The text includes excerpts from psychologist Alexandra Horowitz's acclaimed book 'Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know', a specially commissioned piece from English dog authority John Bradshaw, as well as reminiscences of Hughes' own dogs and those he has met along the way. 183 photographs"
