Overview

We live in a visual age. I Gaze, Therefore I Am is a book on medical gaze first described by Michel Foucault, French philosopher and historian of ideas. The journey the medical gaze has taken from its archaic beginnings to our era of digital culture has been noteworthy. In this book, Rangaswami takes us through this historic journey, blending stories from the history of science and medicine with a rich collection of tales from scriptures and legends as well as iconic episodes from his personal experience, stirring them in his unique style with a wide range of topics for academic discussions. This book is a compelling narrative of the shifting optics of gaze, especially medical gaze, poised in our age of human transition from Homo visualis to Homo virtualis.
