He recorded combat missions in three USAF aircraft-the KC-135, and two Sikorsky helicopters, the HH-3 and the HH-53. On November of 1970 he flew with Marty Donohue as his co-pilot on Apple 3- mission gunship in the attack on the Son Tay POW camp in North Vietnam. Col . Waldron writes details that he experienced during combat rescue missions and on Retiedthe Raid at Son Tay. He retired from the Pentagon in March, 1984. His awards include the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the air Medal with six oak Leaf Clusters.
