"When asked what my reason for telling this story is, I said I only want to inspire and encourage other people facing the samechallenge, make them live life to the fullest with the people they love. Encourage them to love, laugh, play and share like they were as fit as a fiddle. There's a good that has come out of my experience with sickle-cell anaemia, and that's the privilege to counsel and be a muse of hope to children with the disorder. Nothing beats the joy of earning their parents' trust in this regard. Trust me.So, I thought ""why not write my experience, so I can reach a larger audience, and spread this hope?"" Why not reach other Sickle Cell Warriors with this one message: the doctor's report doesn't define you. Rather, embracing God's word for your life is, of all things, most important. I am a living witness to this! We are overcomers...we are warriors.... weare survivors!""For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"" (Jeremiah29:11).Furthermore, sickle cell patients are not abnormal people, the illness is not a curse and it is wrong to believe that investing in a child with the disorder is a waste of financial resources. With access to quality care, the symptoms can be controlled and disease complications managed such that sickle cell patients can live normally, even to old age. It is this positive message that I am so happy to share with my fellow survivors and the world: that they, too, can be all they want to be in life.Finally, this book is driven by a deep sense of gratitude for life and is a call of hope to all Sickle Cell Warriors to takethe life they have been given and make the most of it. For as long as there is breath in man, there is a bigger picturealready painted that in which there are no limitations to what can be achieved in between the doctor's visits and frightening episodes that leave you wishing you could do more.Of course, the challenges exist. And, for people like us, our life is rife with them, but everything works out an awesome victory for us, by God himself. Come to think of it? Without these obstacles, we'll never discover our incredible ability tobeat them, and come out dancing still? If God is by your side, you will beat any challenge."
