This form Of wheel was capable Of an efficiency Of 30 per cent. And was in wide use up to about 1800. The breast wheel (fig. 2) utilized the weight of the water rather than its velocity due to the same fall with an efficiency as high as 65 per cent. It was used up to about 1850.
