Glascock share the struggle and satisfaction that accompanies teaching social justice. Their collaboration with Bill Elasky, one of my classroom heroes, provides us with a powerful example of how democratic classrooms work - from scheduling bus trips, to interviewing mine workers, to holding a public forum on a contentious community issue. (Linda Christensen, Author of 'Reading, Writing, Rising Up: Teaching about Social Justice and the Power of the Written Word') This is a story about a teacher, his students, and a learning project. The story evolves to include miners, mine managers, environmental activists, professors, graduate students, and practice teachers. It takes in important ideas about learning, education, community, social change, and justice. But it begins and ends with a story. I can't wait to share this story and all its trimmings with working-class parents, teachers and future teachers of working-class students, and education activists. (Patrick J. Finn, Author of 'Literacy with an Attitude: Educating Working-Class Students in Their Own Self-Interest') This is a story about a teacher, his students, and a learning project.
