Overview

Narcissists live among us. (As do the self-obsessed, the conversationally incompetent, and those maniacal co-workers who purposefully spoil the movie you're planning to see this weekend.) Interacting with such inconsiderate earthlings is exhausting. How to Cure Yourself of Narcissism is an exercise in catharsis as our author, Seth McDonough, takes you on an imaginary adventure in which he talks to the narcissists among us, and provides helpful tips for how they could (if only they would) stop their crimes against our collective sanity. Even though the book itself is a fantasy, its details are authentic--drawing on real-world examples of bad manners in every genre of life, from work to school to dating. While you may not agree with our author's every diagnosis of etiquette failings, he talks to the imaginary narcissistic reader with such cheerful humor (and genuine suggestions for improvement) that you're sure to have a good time along the way. (Includes 24 funny illustrations.)

Author Information

Seth McDonough has earned his healthy disregard for the self-absorbed through many interactions with an array of socially challenged people. His working life has included such jobs as clerk at a police station, transit-directions operator, mental health worker, crisis centre scheduler, rollerblade hockey coach, professional MC, and wedding videographer. As well, Seth has participated in many sports, volunteer activities, and dating adventures. All of these experiences invite every flavour of self-absorption for Seth to tease. Sorrel McDonough has been a graphic artist and illustrator for 15 years, and a lifetime sister of our author. She has worked in design in all variety of platforms including motorsports racing, kids' TV, and intergalactic chip art. She specializes in sprinkling humour into her work wherever she can. Sorrel lives in Vancouver, Canada where she drives her significant other crazy with the many two headed monsters that she creates as one half of the pop-up art duo, the Styrogirls. Calum McDonough has been a graphic and product designer for over 20 years, and has been the brother to our author for even longer. He has designed plush mascots for several international sporting events. Calum lives in New Westminster, Canada where he participates in all manner of racquet sports and claims to be a mentor to his brother.
