Reviews

House of Grace, a romantic novel covering love, loss and determination has an interesting storyline and absorbing plot. It's easy style makes for a great holiday read. Grace Granville is an engaging character that you want to root for especially when she needs to deal with despicable others. Patricia M Osborne brings the era 1950 -1970, with all its social changes, alive in the readers mind with the right amount of sensitivity and detail, enabling the reader to empathise and feel compassion for the choices Grace feels forced to make. This novel is described as a family saga and it is exactly that, focussing mainly on Grace Granville's life and her relationship with her children. There is an all too believable plot line about love, loss and family relationships and another about Grace's development as a fashion designer. I found this a real page turner. The reader is led through the life of Grace, from a boarder at school to a successful business women. The twist and turns that she faces in her life make her a strong person, but the one thing that is always in her being is 'Love'. I really enjoyed reading this novel. It's the kind of book you can curl up with in an armchair and get transported to another world. It's a great story, well written, an engaging central character and lots of very enjoyable period detail from the 50's and 60's. Highly recommended for a jolly good read. Set, initially, in the early 50's, it was nice, as a sixty something year old myself, to reminisce as we travelled with Grace into the 60's and beyond, and to be taken back to a simpler time. I could not put this lovely book down and read it in just two days. 'The developments that the characters make as the story progresses are well executed. I found this book very moving at times, and did not want the story to end.' This was a very easy to read novel. It made such a change to read a book that doesn't have any violence or bad language. I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good straightforward story with genuine characters. A story that keeps you gripped while you see the widening world through the perspective of Grace. Puts the pleasure and emotion back into reading, as you turn the pages and follow Grace's journey. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was caught up in the characters' stories. I wanted to keep reading to know what was going to happen but didn't want it to end! I'd love to know what happens next! A good read I thoroughly enjoyed it Loved loved loved this book. I couldn't put it down, I read it in 2 days ! Can't wait for the sequel. Thoroughly recommend this book
