Author Information

My name is Evelyn Horvath and I live in North Carolina in a little town called Norwood. I was born on Christmas Day 1942 and raised in Sullivan, Ohio in a large family. Just call me a country girl since we were raised on a farm. Even though Dad was a crane operator, he still was a farmer. Mother was a wonderful loving mother who always told her children to go for their dreams, something she never had a chance to do. Mother was very gifted in so many ways. One of them was writing, but she never had the means to make her dreams of writing come true. I had read several of mother's stories she had written and kept in a yellow chest in her bedroom closet. I believe God let her pass that dream down to her daughter, me. Since I was born on Christmas, she always told me that I was going to be blessed with a special gift from God, especially after she read the first story I had written at the age of fourteen, called Patches that I took from a song I heard on the radio. I was married to a Marine the first time and had a lovely daughter who gave me four grandchildren, even though my grandson died at the age of six months old of crib death. Later, my three other children gave me grandchildren which are all a blessing and now I have several great grandchildren as well. God has brought me through so many storms in my life and one was the way my son was conceived. I was raped and it was a nightmare. But, I couldn't give him up because he was my son. It was not easy raising four children, mostly on my own, but with the help of God, because without Him, I could never have made it. I was blessed with many great miracles that my children can witness. After a stroke that left my mind so out of focus, I couldn't remember things too well. But God brought me through that storm, as well as so many more. I lost my third baby at four months, before I had my daughter, Beth. Then, in 1971, I had a daughter who was born two weeks into my sixth month and I lost her twin. Joanie weighed in at 2 lb. and 10 oz. and the other, I am not sure if it was a boy or girl. But I was blessed by the hand of God because in the delivery room, I went to heaven to get her and the babies were in little wicker baskets and it was so tiny and precious. But as I took Jesus' hand, He told me I would know my babies when I saw them. When I saw my tiny Joanie, I delivered her. She is now 47 years old and doing great and gave birth to two of her own children and now has four grandchildren.
