Overview

In today's world, where people exercise less than ever before in history, incontinence has become an epidemic. As our population enjoys older age and better health, parts of our bodies suffer from effects largely unknown in previous times. Incontinence affects women of all ages, and in severe cases can disrupt and sometimes ruin our lifestyle. Pads and pills can add an unnecessary toll on household budgets. There is a cure for incontinence. In Home & Dry, recent discoveries in the field of Pelvic Floor health are shown and come to the rescue. This easy-to-understand book is written for sufferers and for the first time, explains what causes incontinence, how to prevent it in the future, and what recent cures - usually non-medical and at no cost - are available for most sufferers. This is a unique book. It is totally different from the many incontinence books on the bookshelves. It is based on a remarkable discovery in 1990, known as the Integral Theory. This Theory, for the first time in history, explained how the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis co-ordinate for the normal function of bladder and bowel and how when the ligaments are weak, the whole system is thrown out of balance to cause prolapse, incontinence emptying problems and chronic pain. Dr. Skilling's aim is to empower women by sharing this discovery. She uses easily understood diagrams to explain how their bladder and bowel work, how and why prolapse, chronic pain, bowel, and bladder symptoms occur and how to improve and cure these problems. Also for the first time, Dr. Skilling shares the special pelvic exercises she developed which have scientifically proven to improve bladder bowel and pain symptoms by up to 50% in the majority of premenopausal women. And what if the exercises don't work? Again, Dr. Skilling through actual patient stories shows how most older women can be helped by new surgical methods which create new collagen to repair the damaged ligaments. Through these stories, women will be able to find how conditions similar to their own can be potentially cured either by doing her special exercises or if all else fails, by minimally invasive surgery which can be done either as a day or overnight stay procedure. Alternative treatments are explained, with pros and cons, why hysterectomy should be avoided. Explanations of causation, pregnancy, old age, are discussed. Nor are children and adult males neglected. Special sections in the book deal with these problems also.

Incontinent? I was. Six or seven times a day, if I was lucky enough to make it to the bathroom in time. I always had a change of underwear in my handbag. Until I read that exercises...not Kegel which I've been doing since my daughter was born because they exercised the wrong muscles...what I learned was the key to stopping peeing uncontrollably. This incredible book changed my life. No pills, No equipment...just exercises. The book says it's because my muscles and ligaments 'down there' weren't working like they did. So now they are, and I go when I want to...KW, MIAMI Talk about life changing. Our social life was... well there wasn't one because my wife was too embarrassed to leave the house in case she couldn't find a toilet. And all it took was advice from this little book to figure out what the problem and the solution was that she needed. No Doctor she saw helped her, they suggested expensive pathology texts. They happily took our money and her time results told us what we already knew, but no cure. She spent a fortune on psychiatrists, who told her that she was doing it through anxiety or insecurity. This book said do exercises. That's It. Now she's cured.Thank you, Dr. Skilling. You're a life saver. Duncan O'Malley. Dublin I was active, sporty, and lived a full life until menopause. I have four children and seven grandchildren and they're my life since my husband passed. The family drove long distances to come and see me on the farm. I couldn't travel to them anymore because I'd arrive having wet myself. It was embarrassing. It was my daughter who sent me Skilling's book. My life has changed. I realized I was not alone and I'd recommend this book to those who have had children and even to those who don't have incontinence. While you may think this may never happen to you, you are better off knowing what you can do to prevent it. What they recommend is easy. MARTHA D., AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND I didn't know much about incontinence until my mom got it. I thought it was just an old age thing. I just happened to come across 'Home and Dry' and learnt a lot about our bodies and how incontinence occurs, about cures and steps to prevent it. Such an interesting read and I thank you for sharing a topic not many of us know about and hopefully will never experience if we put into place your exercises. S. Kennedy, Houston, USA

Author Information

Dr. Patricia M. Skilling is a graduate of the University of St Andrews in Scotland, the oldest in the country, and one of the most famous in the world. She went on to train with Professor Petros as a Pelvic Floor Physician and was Head of Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation in the Kvinno Centre Perth, Western Australia. She developed an entirely new system of pelvic floor rehabilitation based on the Integral System. This method is unique in that it trains the 3 muscles which naturally control the bladder and bowel and overcomes the problems which women experienced when learning and practicing the *Kegel method. Dr. Skilling's revolutionary exercises are especially useful for 'time poor' women, as they are easily incorporated in natural body stances and sitting postures. They've been described as 'exercises when you're not exercising.' The uniqueness of this method lies in its ability to improve several conditions such as bladder and bowel incontinence, nocturia, chronic pelvic pain and constipation. These symptoms cannot be cured by the classic Kegel method which most therapists use. She has published several papers on her work and given talks at scientific meetings. Dr. Skilling is a passionate advocate for women's health, and is dedicated to ending the conspiracy of silence, and is open to sharing treatments for incontinence, a potentially curable condition which continues to affect the lives of a billion women throughout the world. Alan Gold has written over 30 books, both fiction and non-fiction. He became interested in the medical scandals concerning incontinence and chronic pelvic pain in 2014. Alan has spent the past 5 years intensively investigating every aspect of the incontinence story, the mesh controversies, why the most recent discoveries in the understanding of the pelvic floor aren't taught in medical schools, as well as the pervasive influence of the $35 billion p.a. drug industry. He uncovered disturbing evidence that women are being told by experts in the field that cures for bladder, bowel and chronic pain problems is not available. They ARE! As are cures for bed wetting. When Gold heard of the early results from the bed wetting studies, he, like medical specialist and co-author Dr. Patricia Skilling, had some difficulty in understanding how such a simple method as exercises could possibly have such a profound effect. His interest was more than academic and professional. It explained the sudden disappearances from family gatherings of his favorite aunt when he was a boy. As it happened, one of his colleagues had a 10-year old son with a severe bed wetting problem. After discussions with Dr. Skilling, confirmed by Professor Petros, Alan suggested the child do 10 squats every morning and every night. It was, after all, minimally invasive, inexpensive, and easy enough to do. There was nothing to lose. Remarkably, the child became dry within one week, and with regular exercises, has stayed dry since. This gave Alan a strong incentive to persuade Dr. Skilling that she should make her and Professor Petros' discoveries known to the world at large. As an internationally published and translated novelist and opinion columnist, Alan has assisted Dr. Skilling with the structure, planning and content of this book.
