OverviewHomage (2022) is both a feature length screenplay as well as an exercise in creative screenwriting. Dedicated to legendary film-maker Jean Pierre Melville (1917-1973), Homage aims to explore Melville's crime cinema and to celebrate his fascinating persona. Eight of his key works from Bob le Flambeur (1956) to Un Flic (1972) have been analysed, dialogue rewritten in his style (after rewatching films), another plotline introduced running throughout involving the theft of the British crown jewels, references to films Melville was influenced by, and a fictional dream sequence that includes J.P meeting a shrink and a pretend interview with a Cahiers critic. Some characters depicted in this screenplay are loosely based on their original counterparts in Jean Pierre Melville's fine films.
