OverviewThe Iowa 13th Infantry regiment was organized in the summer and fall of 1861 and was mustered in between Oct. 18 and Nov. 2, by companies. On March 8 1862 it left for Pittsburg landing, where it was assigned to the 1st brigade, 1st division, Gen. McClernand commanding. It fought with the Army of Tennessee beginning with Shiloh where it lost 24 killed and 139 wounded. It participated all the major battles, ending with Bentonville, NC in 1865.The 13th lost during service 5 Officers and 114 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 205 Enlisted men by disease.
